A big thank you to Sue Coates who came especially to do the registration for the Ladies Invitation Day and also purchased the balls for the ball sweep. The day started well with tea/coffee and biscuits but the weather got the better of most of the participants unfortunately. My team with Heather Wood from Muswell Hill, Una Kilgallon and Jo Brown from Hadley Wood were the only team to finish 18 holes and so won the competition; Second was Billie Newland and Shelagh Wilson From Brickendon with Wendy Goodman and Val Fletcher also from Brickendon; Third was Sue Charles and Janet Andrew with Rita Kapur and Jackie Largagren from Hadley Wood. Well done to all who took part, shame about the weather!
Di Williams and the Middlesex Team hosted the South of England Junior Girls Championships Mon August 13th – Weds 15th. Our green staff were out on the course well after their working hours to ensure that the conditions were perfect and I'm sure that it was appreciated by all who took part. Debbie and her team in the house did well and also showed BHP in a very favourable light, as did Alasdair and his team with their efficient and tasty cuisine which kept the girls going and got them out on time in the afternoons. The standard of golf shown by the girls was amazing. There were girls as young as 10 years up to 18 years playing off the back tees and hitting the greens with ease; on the last day one of the girls even scored a hole in one on the 7th! It was a pleasure to watch and the girls were happy and enjoyed their matches. Well done Di.
Ray Ripsher has now sorted the times and pairings for those who have expressed an interest in playing in the Gents Invitation to Ladies on Sunday, August 19th and the weather promises to be nice, so let's keep our fingers crossed and look forward to a good day!
The New Members' Trophy, which was rained off on the only wet day in recent times, has been rescheduled for Sunday August 26th. If you are a new member who has joined within 3 years on the day of the competition you are eligible to enter and we would like as many to enter as possible to make this an occasion for new members to get together and we will also have members of the committees around to meet you. The Captain and I will be there to see you off the first and buy you a drink after. This is a mixed individual stableford competition off full handicap.
Don't forget to put your name down for the President's night on Saturday September 1st! This promises to be a good evening, a three course meal in the restaurant followed by music and dancing in the main bar downstairs.
Mark and Janet are organising a mixed friendly V Enfield at Enfield on Sunday Sept 2nd. There seem to be a lot of men who now wish to play in the mixed, see Ray's list! So get out there and ask them to play or get Janet & Mark to do the asking if you feel a little shy, these are always good days!
Guy Saunders, Billie Newland, Ray Ripsher and Stewart are setting up a committee to raise funds and build a ladies toilet on the course in time for our 125year celebrations in 2020. They feel that this would be helped by another lady member joining this committee, so if you would like to join them please contact Billie or Stewart?
On a sad note the funeral of Forbes Chapman, former Captain and President, will be at New Southgate Crematorium on Tuesday August 28th at 2pm.
Mia has now contacted me to say that she is feeling much better and missing the ladies of BHP plus the golf and getting about. She is now feeling up to visitors but unable to answer the door easily, so if you would like to visit she asks that you phone first and she will give you the code for the front door to enable you to get in.
Unfortunately the Iris Sumner had to be cancelled last Sunday, so we will try to reschedule.
I am disappointed at the uptake for the Lady Captain/Pro challenge and would be very happy if more of you would sign up, although dates are quickly becoming scarce since my time as captain is quickly coming to a close. The sheet is now in the pro shop and any mutually agreeable date is possible, not just Sunday's!
Do remember that Pauline is collecting 1&2 litre milk bottle tops in aid of the London Air Ambulance. If you can please collect these, give them a quick rinse and bring them to the club we will provide a collection container in the locker room.
