After many months of work and hundreds of man hours the new short game area is now ready to open.
The grow-in period has gone extremely well with all surfaces displaying excellent grass coverage.
This new practice area will open on Friday 9th August after the greenkeepers take on the committees in a nearest the pin competition to formally open the area.
Access is via the 1st tee where a woodland path will take you safely to the facility, avoiding the risk of being hit by golfers using the range
Enjoy using the practice area and I hope it does some good in improving your short game and bunker play.
The cores were a by-product from our spring renovations and recycled to form the surface of the green. This technique replicates grass species on our native greens and saves hundreds of pounds in purchasing turf or seed.
With careful nurturing and plentiful applications of fertiliser and water, green shoots started to appear within 2 weeks.
Greens maintenance week will commence on the 27th August and will take four days to complete.
Work will consist of scarification, two aeration procedures and finally a heavy sand dressing (50 tonnes)
Disruption to the surfaces will occur during the works and for a period of 7 days after completion whilst the sand disperses.
The Poplar trees along the 6th and 12th fairways are already losing their leaves and have been for the last couple of weeks.
This summer shedding can be a drain on our resources so early in the year as these areas need to be cleared regularly throughout the week to enable golfers to find their balls quickly avoiding slow play.
Every effort will be made to keep these holes clear from of a build-up of leaves
