Course Update

With the heatwave behind us, we are now experiencing much cooler temperatures and wetter conditions with over 40 mm of rainfall this week.

The rain is very welcome but it did hamper our preparation work for the junior county match week which the club had the honour of hosting.

The event started on a Monday so the green staff had to work throughout the weekend to prepare the course for the competition.

I would like to thank them for the early starts and late finishes to make this event a success.

13th Pond

I am still awaiting confirmation of the availability of the long reach excavator to dredge the pond, although I have pencilled in September 3rd for the work to start.

On Monday and Tuesday of that week the 13th hole will be closed as we dredge the area directly in front of the green.

Work is planned to take 5 days and regular updates will be posted on my blog.

This week we took delivery of our new John Deere sprayer/Utility vehicle as part of our Leasing programme.

Many of our high usage machinery we now lease and are replaced after 3 years when reliability and breakdowns are more common.

The new machinery reduces downtime and keeps us using the most up to date equipment that will only have a positive effect on the golf course.

I am very keen to raise the profile of the green keeping department and feel it's important that members are fully informed of our work.

Our blog and social media is an opportunity to connect with members and others for you to get a better understanding of our work and problems that can occur in such a weather dominated industry.

I am keen for the green staff to interact with members on and off the course as communication and feedback is very important in our roles.

Many of our longer serving members know the team well, but for the newer members I thought I would take this opportunity to profile the team.

Spring: It's not too hot and not too cold, also it's when the course starts to look good and were busy cutting.
