I'm still a bit weary after our away trip but more of that later.
Last weekend we held our September Stableford and the Grandfathers Cup, with the former being played over 2 days. There were 2 divisions with Stephen Preston winning Div 1 with 42 points and Ahmet Bozdemir winning Div 2 with 40 points. The Grandfathers Cup was won by the old timer Barry Clarke with 42 points albeit of yellow tees.
Congratulations must go to Richard Blythe who won the Middlesex Handicap competition played at Mill Hill GC for the second time in 2 years. Well done Richard. Also congratulations to Tyrese Danso who won the Middlesex U 13's Championship with a score of 38 points.
On Sunday 34 stalwarts of the club headed north to Norwich for the Captain's away trip. There should have been 36 but 2 dropped out because of ill health. We stayed at Dunston Hall a magnificent building built in 1859 but still in good order. We played a variety of matches - singles competition over 2 days and a pairs match and also a team match on Sunday. Initially we played off white tees but this seemed a bit daunting, in fact only Danny hit the first par 3 for nearest the pin. The winner of the trophy was Danny, although he couldn't win any prizes, closely followed by Ray Ripsher who also won the pairs competition with Stephen Ames and was also in the winning team on Monday.
I won't say much about Sunday evening when we adjourned to the Bunkers Bar for a quiet after dinner drink which quickly turned into a riot once Ted Rees got his guitar out. A raucous karaoke evening continued into the early hours with renditions of Sweet Caroline and I would walk 500 miles belted out at high volume. I think everyone enjoyed themselves judging by how many missed breakfast.
I would like to thank Danny for his input and helping me with the scores and prize giving and also all the guys that participated. Next year Iain Lanario is opting for Cromer GC. Get your names down early, I think it will be overbooked!
Just a note to end with about the course. Graham and his team of green keepers have got the course in tip top condition which must be preserved. Unfortunately members are not repairing pitch marks on our magnificent greens. It doesn't take a minute to do but every time I play there are half a dozen not repaired. Please repair them as you play.
