Following last weeks hectic golf schedule we had another one this week. On Saturday 5th September John Bottoms oversaw his President's Day. Another fine day for golf and there were some very creditable scores despite the difficult pin positions. The course was presented in great condition which inspired the 80 entrants. Out on top in the main competition was Mark Watts, our Chairman of Greens, with 39 points. He probably chose the pin positions to make it difficult for the other players. Second was Chris Davison, they are both off single figure handicaps. Winner of the Veterans Prize was Tony Thorley with 36 points on count back from Michael Coughlan, well done boys.
Well that was Saturday! Sunday saw my final Fourball Draw. 24 members turned up on a pleasant morning which turned out to be a lovely warm day. As it was my final chance to play with Danny in a Captain and Pro challenge we were drawn out first and our opponents were David Boothroyd and young Jack Bidmead. They both played extremely well and unfortunately beat us 5 & 4. This was only our second defeat but this was the most resounding. They scored 47 points and won the day!!
In the afternoon we held our first New Members Guest Day. This was well attended by 50 of our new members and their guests in brilliant sunshine. The winners were Craig Hagerty and Daniel Barker with 49 points, very well done.
This coming weekend 36 of us are off to Dunston Hall near Norwich for my away day. I'll let you know how we got on in my next blog.
