Golf competitions are now in full swing with 2 medals held over the weekend and the Fourball Draw on Sunday.
The August medal was won by Neil Hurst with a nett score of 65 off 10 handicap and the Division 2 Scratch Salver was won by Rob Morgan, with a nett 62 off 16. Well done boys, very well played.
On Sunday morning we held our monthly Fourball Draw which attracted 32 players who were paired up randomly. There was some confusion at the start but this was quickly sorted out and everybody got to the appropriate tees in good time for the shotgun start. The winning pair were Chris Vowles & Jason Gibbons, a new member, with a magnificent 47 points. They should receive a significant cash prize.
The Friday Fish & Chip night is becoming very successful as well as Sunday lunch which is usually fully booked a week in advance.
Roy is managing to keep the kitchen open for sandwiches and light snacks at reduced hours through the week.
Golf wise there is plenty coming up in the near future. Saturday we have the Coronation Cup, which is a 36 hole medal competition played on the same day. If you're not up to 36 holes there is the Extra Stableford played in conjunction with the Cup.
Starting on Monday 17th August we are holding our much abridged 125th Anniversary Week, culminating on Saturday 22nd August with Captains Day. There will be more information in next week's blog.
Sadly, Dave & Irene Dickinson are leaving the club and moving to Somerset. Dave has been a member of BHP for 50 years and was assistant pro to George Low. You won't be surprised to know that he soon decided he wasn't going to be the next Harry Vardon and became a teacher instead. Over the years Dave has fulfilled many roles at the club, including Captain, and has been a great supporter of BHP. Irene has been a member for nearly 40 years, she has been Lady Captain and other roles too numerous to mention and like Dave has been a great club member. They will be greatly missed by all.
Finally our new hut has arrived and has been put together. Vice Captain "Sparks", has done the wiring and Andrew Stredder, who kindly volunteers for anything and everything, is painting it, I'm reliably informed, "Sage Green".Enjoy!Graham
