Captain's Announcements

Another shocking week for golf. Unfortunately the course was closed on Saturday, cancelling the winter league, so no results to report.

On Wednesday 19th February the club held an EGM to vote on the adoption of the new Ltd Company. This was passed unanimously.

I posted a request for a Welfare Officer in my blog last week. This position was immediately taken up by Beth Lanario. Thanks very much Beth, I know you will do a fine job.

Last Friday was Valentines Day and we had a themed Party Night with Ted Rees and his band the TJ's supplying the music. It was a really good night which was well supported. They made a supreme effort and kept the dancing going till midnight. I think they've got the job.

On Sunday 15th March, we are arranging a 125 year celebration event. This will be to recognise the inauguration of the golf course in March 1895. It was on this day that Mrs Aveling struck the first drive from the 1st tee to a chorus of cheers from a crowd of over 100 ladies and gents. The competition will be a mixed event in teams of 4, playing a stableford competition taking the best 2 scores. It will be a 9.30 am shotgun start, with £5 per person entry fee. There will be cash prizes and optional food available. A poster will be displayed in the George Low bar, please enter in teams if possible.

The Annual Dinner Dance is fast approaching on the 14th March, please book your tables and support the club.

As many members have noticed the interest in my Captains away weekend has surpassed my expectations, therefore I have increased the availability to 44. I will put a note on the posters to this effect.

Last item in my blog this week is the Mexican Night on Thursday 27th March, this should be a lively night.

The forecast for next week is still dire. It must end soon!
