When you're in the clubhouse next, pick up a copy of Golf News. The latest edition features a very complimentary article about Bush Hill Park. It reminds us all of some of our assets and the benefits of being a member at Bush Hill Park, from the clubhouse and the course, to the swing studio, the 1895 membership and of course the new irrigation system. We are, the article contends, a very special golf club, but I've been telling you that for ages.
Now I know last week I said I was going to start winning everything following my lesson with Danny. Well, it would seem that I'm going to need a few weeks for the new swing to 'bed in'. Anyway, suffice to say that I did not feature in the winners' circle on Saturday! Graham Dickens, however, did, scoring 40 points to win division one. John Guiney, who contends he's not been playing well, also scored 40 only to be beaten on the back nine. Division two was won by Prakash Kapur with an excellent 41 points and, scoring 39 points, Ted Rees was runner up. I can only think that some of these people play extra holes – I merely dream of getting 40 points!
Sunday's Professional's draw had to function without the Captain, Lady Captain and Vice Captain who were playing in a mixed open at Porter's Park. I suspect this wasn't a big concern to the 17 people who played, however. The game was played in threes and, with a score of 82 points, the winning team was Andrew Garrad, Varney Christofi and Gary Droy. Congratulations to them and I look forward to seeing as many as we can at my final fourball draw on the 2nd September.
I should also point out that Tracey and Ray Ripsher secured third place in the mixed open mentioned above, with 38 points, only one shot off the winning score of 39, so very well done to them.
South of England Girls
Bush Hill is hosting the South of England Girls championships next week from Monday to Wednesday. The standard will be excellent as girls from south east counties compete over three days. Di Williams is organising the event and would be grateful of any support we can give, or just come up and watch some great golf.
Gents Invite to the Ladies – 19th August. This is full now I believe, but if you can find a woman you might just be able to get in.
New Members Trophy – We have rescheduled this for the 26th August. It is important that anyone wishing to play lets Danny or the office know. Please do not just turn up on the day.
August Bank Holiday – 27th August. A Texas Scramble will be played in the morning and there will be food available at lunchtime, followed by the Wilson Putting Vase.
President's Day – Notices should be going up soon for what is one of our biggest events of the golfing season. Book for golf in the usual way and see Debbie for the evening.
Cross Country – The cross country has been rescheduled for the 6th September.
By the way, I know some of you are worried about the water level in the pond on the 13th. In a few weeks time we plan to dredge the lake, which will be a much easier task with less water. The last time this was done was in 1998. The work will be done in house by our green staff so reducing the cost considerably. The quote I had just a couple of years ago was £28000 can you believe. Most of the fish have been relocated to the 17th Lake and a local fishery. The only thing I'm bothered about now is whether I will get any of the balls back that I've put in there over the years.
Coronation Cup tomorrow for all you fit young things who can still play 36 holes in a day. I'll see if I can organise some cooler weather.
Speak next week.
