My premonition about last weekend's golf sadly came to pass and the course was closed all weekend. I trust everyone saw the website before venturing up to the club for the four-ball draw on Sunday morning. Hopefully spring is on its way.
Congratulations to the green staff for the work they've done on the bunker at the 16th. What a transformation; they are trialling a new product which they have used on the revetted bank, an artificial grass which we're told the foxes can't burrow into it. Also, they've done a great job on the path at the 7th.
The hub has given us a few headaches regarding booking times. It was giving restricted access to some members (including the Captain!) so we have had to revert to booking on the BRS as before. Remember that it will be on Thursday evenings at 7.30 and not the mornings.
No change then in the Winter League positions and only two weeks to go now. James Chard and Andrew Morris are on 227, and Andrew Garrad and Graham Dickens are snapping at their heels on 226. Looks like it could be an exciting finish. Don't forget, if there is a tie, the competition is decided on the best 7th card.
Congratulations to Martin Dunnett for winning the Roger Archibald Trophy with a nett score of 57. Peter Wafford and David Boothroyd finished on 64. The Roger Archibald Trophy is the Rangers winter eclectic competition.
Well done also to Norman Carey for winning the Rabbits winter eclectic. Sadly I do not know his score. Unlike Norman to keep it secret!
Captain's Away Day
It's looking like it'll just be Len Palmer and myself going to Aldwickbury Park on September 9th. Can we at least get two more to make up a four ball! For information and booking please see the poster in the George Low bar.
A few have signed up for these matches but there are still quite a few blank spaces. Remember you can play during the week as well as Sundays so don't be shy.
Mothers' Day this Sunday.
Annual dinner next Saturday, 17th March.
Seafood Extravaganza. Saturday 7th April.
Friday Night Live. 27th April.
Charity Day. 7th May.
Finally I would like to take the opportunity to welcome Nicola Bennett, who will be joining Danny and Alfie as part of the professional team. Nicola began her golf at Pinner Hill and later moved to Porters Park before becoming a PGA assistant at the Grove. She has played quite a few tour events, including the World Pro-Am tournament at Atlantic City last year. She hopes to play in this event again this year. Nicola will be working two full days and two half days to fit in with her playing commitments. I'm sure we all wish her well at Bush Hill.
Let's hope for a nice weekend; it's got to be better than last week hasn't it?
Speak next week.
