Captain's Christmas Announcement's

It was always going to be a different kind of Christmas, and for a few hours it seemed golf would not be allowed once again, but thankfully we are still able to get out there & play, even if it is in 2 balls for the time being, if only the weather would improve. We are still planning to go ahead with the Cold Turkey Trot on Monday 28th December, as long as the course is open. If you have already booked as a 4 ball, you will be split into your pairs and given tee times as near as possible to your existing booking. This competition is now free to enter.
Floods, course closures, Tier 4......Words fail me.
So I will use the ever so slightly altered words of Clement C Moore's great poem.

'Twas the week before Christmas
When all through the Clubhouse,
Not a creature was stirring,
Not even a mouse.

The stockings were hung,
in the George Low bar with care,
In the hope that Debbie or her staff,
would soon be there.

The golfers were nestled ,
all snug in their beds,
While visions of great scores ,
danced in their heads.

Whilst Danny in his shop,
and I in my cap,
had just settled down,
for a Covid free nap.

When out on the green,
there rose such a clatter,
I sprang from my chair
to see what was the matter

The moon on the puddles
of the new fallen rain
Gave way to the groans,
"It's bloody wet again"

When, what to my wondering eyes
Should appear,
The management committee,
full of Christmas cheer.

With a sprightly leader,
Not at all silly,
I knew in a moment,
It must be Billie.

To all the golfers,
from Bush Hill they came,
And she whistled & shouted,
and called them by name.

"We can only have 2 balls,
It's lockdown you see,
We are into tier 4
We've gone up from tier 3 !"

But what about Christmas,
Stewart, What can we do ?
"You can do magic,
This surely is true"!

This Christmas will be strange,
Unlike any other,
No 4 ball for me,
golf with only 1 other.

So wherever you are
At this strange Christmas time,
Raise a glass to a golf friend
If only, mulled wine !

Wherever you are & whatever you are doing, I hope you have a very Merry Christmas .
Iain
