I'm almost at the end of my tenure as Captain of BHP Golf Club. It was always something that I wanted to do having been a member for almost 30 years. I'm not saying it has been easy, what with the bad weather at the beginning of the year and then straight into COVID-19 but I have thoroughly enjoyed it. Although the gods were against us we got most things done. Pre-Christmas went well with the usual dinners and lunches especially New Years Eve.
I introduced a printed diary with the help of Jon Copley, Stewart and Mike Stainton which I would have liked to be continued but it was not to be.
My Charity, The British Heart Foundation, has been well supported with extra help from Danny with his 125 holes of golf, Lenny organising Charity Day, I haven't got the final figures but I believe it's approaching £8K. Sadly the club has been badly hit by Covid but we've managed to keep the clubhouse open whilst obeying social distancing. Theme nights have been successful as have Roy's fish and chip nights.
On Sunday we have the new Captains drive-in and lunch and I wish Iain Lanario every success. Just to close I would like to thank my Captains Committee for their input and support and of course all the members who have contributed to the success of the club in these trying times.
Thank you all
What a year started in the rain and finish in the rain. But in between, Sue and Graham managed to achieve their year successfully golf wise and added too their charity’s well done in these difficult times. No more organising ,just turning up to enjoy a round of golf.Well earned ???
