  • R&A sixes challenge

    R&A sixes challenge

Golf is too slow and takes too long to play, the rules are maddening and the handicap system is not universal. Three pretty bold but fairly familiar statements, all of which do not endear or encourage new players to golf or help retain existing players.

Taking these points quickly in reverse order, there will be a new handicap system being launched next year, known as The World Handicap System, which will provide a simple portable handicap for every player, administered remotely.

As we are aware, the rules of golf have been recently overhauled, introducing some sensible and time saving initiatives but in truth they do remain over complicated for the average amateur, who represent more than 99.6% of all golfers worldwide.

  • Captain's Day & Dinner

    Captain's Day & Dinner

Saturday set the stage with blistering heat, steady breeze and a course that looked superb.

89 gents took part and more than 20 managed to equal or better their handicap, must have been helped by the beer and refreshments being served by Ray throughout the day.

Our eventual winner with 42 points was Tim Corrick, second was a three way tie with Iain Lanario coming out victorious followed by Clive Prior and Steve Hicks. Congratulations also go to Tony Thorley for winning the over 70 section of the Captain's Prizes with a score of 39 points.

Well done to everyone that played and a MASSIVE congratulations to Ray just for being Captain!

  • Midsummer Madness

    Midsummer Madness

Nine teams of four turned out on a glorious day to take on the challenges of Midsummer Madness.

The use of a putter only on the 16th hole proved particularly frustrating with a maximum of three points being scored by any one team. In fact the majority scored a big fat zero. Coming out of the bunker with a putter is something you wouldn't want to do every day!

Home made cakes, coffee and tea at the hut proved a settling break whilst watching Lisa Martin score a birdie on the 13th off the yellow tee added to the enjoyment.

After a welcome  brunch, vouchers from Peatchey's Butchers were presented to the runners up Sharon Saunders, Sue Agapiou, Graham Edwards and Varney Christofi and the winners Dawn Rose, Umar Annaradnam, Mike Clarke and John Bottoms.

A good day was had by all!

Top quality golf course in North London, welcoming new members and visitors.
